Oakland, CA - HNU Men's Basketball Coach Dennis Jones announced that senior Aiea High School guard, Obie Woods, has signed a letter of intent to play for the Hawks beginning in the 2008-2009 season. "Obie is a very hard worker and someone who contributes to his team in a variety of ways,” said Coach Jones. “He does a little bit of everything; makes his teammates better, finishes on the break, knocks down shots…….. and his strength may actually lie in his ability to defend.”

Woods was instrumental in leading Aiea High School to back to back OIA White Division Championships in 2006-2007 and 2007-2008. The 6’0” Guard also led the Na Alii to the State Championship game as a senior this past season, scoring 26 points in an overtime loss to the Farrington High School Governors in the finale. In the loss he was awarded the MVP Award for the State Championship Game. Obie was also named MVP of the 2008 Oahu Interscholastic Association (OIA) White Division Championship, First Team OIA White Division 2008 and to the OIA Division II All Tournament Team in 2007 and 2008.

Obie is set to join a Holy Names Team that went 16 - 16 overall in 2007 - 2008, including 8 – 8 (5th place) in California Pacific Conference play. The Hawks had won back to back California Pacific Conference Tournaments titles earning automatic bids to the 2006 and 2007 NAIA II National Tournaments. The 2007 season marked just the second time in Men's Basketball history that the team won the regular season and conference tournament title in the same year.
