Holy Names University women’s basketball announced the singing of Castro Valley High School’s Marcie Barajas to a National Letter of Intent. The 5-9 forward signed her letter at a ceremony with friends and family at Castro Valley High School.
Barajas, a team captain and four year varsity player, averaged 11 points and 8.5 rebounds a game during her senior year and helped lead her team to an impressive 18-9 record and a trip to the NCS Div-1 Playoffs for the first time in recent memory, losing to Washington High in the first round.
“Marcie showed tremendous toughness and leadership during her high school career and we are more than happy to add that to our program,” said Coach Spencer. “She loves playing defense and her size, length and toughness will match our style of play perfectly.”
Barajas joins a program that went 19-13 last season including a 14-2 conference mark. The Hawks won the Cal Pac Regular Season Championship and the Cal Pac Tournament Championship earned the Hawks the conference’s automatic bid in to the NAIA National Tournament. The 2007-08 season saw Holy Names win their 8th Cal Pac Championship and make their 9th trip to the NAIA National Tournament in the last 11 years. Holy Names has reached the “Sweet Sixteen” five times during that span including three straight from 2002-2005.
