Dennis Jones, Director of Athletics and Recreation, introduced Dwight Combs today as the new Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Coach for the Hawks.
Coach Combs comes to HNU from Los Medanos College where he was the assistant women’s coach from 2000 – 2004 and with the men’s program from 2000-2003. In 2003 he became the Head Coach for the men’s program, and the following year (2004) became the Head Coach for the LMC women’s program as well.
A native of Antioch California, he played DS and outside hitter at Antioch High School and continued his playing career at Sacramento State University. He also was ranked high in grass doubles and beach volleyball during his playing days. Dwight graduated from Sacramento State University in 1998, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science. He is currently working on his Masters in Sports Management.
“Dwight is an outstanding addition to our department and University.” Said Jones, He has a broad range of coaching experience at many different levels and we have no doubt that he will continue with HNU Athletics’ tradition of success both on the court and in the classroom.”
“I am excited about taking over the program. It’s is exciting to take over a program that is on its way up, and I hope to continue in that direction” said Combs.
Coach Combs inherits a solid group of returners with both squads, fresh off of a 2007 California Pacific Conference Women’s Volleyball Championship last Fall. The men’s team will begin play in January, but the Lady Hawks begin their quest for a second straight conference championship Friday August 29, 2008 at Concordia University in Portland, Oregon against Northwest University.
