Oakland, CA – On May 14th the HNU women’s softball team play its first game vs. Point Loma University in round one of the NAIA Women’s Softball National Championship. Taking place in Decatur Alabama, the Hawks will be the first softball team to represent the California Pacific Conference at Nationals. Round 1 opponent Point Loma Nazarene should immediately put the Hawks to the test, currently ranked #4 nationally with a record of 44-11. In their only meeting of the year, Point Loma topped the Hawks 10-1. The Hawks two others opponents in round one will be Madonna University (MI) and McKendree University (Ill).
On May 19th, the HNU men’s golf team will tee it up in Silvis Illinois at the Men’s National Championship. Currently ranked #12 nationally, the Hawks should be considered contenders to take the championship. An understanding of commitment and responsibility taught the players to believe in themselves, and was seen through the success of the players both in the classroom and on the course. The Hawks have one goal in mind, and that is winning a national championship. And the confidence and belief in each other the Hawks have heading to Silva could be a recipe for success.
On May 21st, cross country runner Juan Gomez will be competing at the NAIA Track and Field Championships in Edwardsville, Illinois. Gomez qualified for nationals by running in the Davis Stampede Half Marathon February 8th, finishing in first place overall with a time of 1:13:59.
Good luck to all of the HNU athletes competing this week.
