LANCASTER,CA: Antelope Valley College student Harley Haynes Jr. signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Holy Names University in Oakland starting in the fall of 2009. Haynes played basketball for AVC in 2005-06, Coach Chelette’s final season as basketball coach at AVC before becoming dean of the department. After the 2005-06 season, Haynes enlisted in the Navy. After two years in Navy Harley returned to Antelope Valley College in 2008 and promptly set about continuing his studies.

Before Antelope Valley College, Haynes was a standout at Palmdale High School in the high desert. The 6’4” Forward showed the ability to play and defend multiple positions on the floor. Haynes ended his senior season as the #10 scorer and #5 rebounder in the Golden League.

“Harley is a tremendous addition to our Family here at HNU, beyond being an excellent basketball player; Harley possesses great character and work ethic.” Said HNU Coach Jones, “he sets the bar high both academically and athletically and then sets about pushing that bar even higher….. He is a part of a recruiting class that mirrors the NAIA Champions of Character core values.”

Harley intends to join the California Highway Patrol upon completion of his bachelor's degree.
