HNU Hawks Men's Soccer travled to Fresno Pacific on Tuesday night. Fresno Pacific, a ranked team every year, are also the hosts of the NAIA National Tournament.
The Hawks Kicked off and were automatically under pressure from two opponents; the strong and quick FPU team and the blistering heat. It was not long before the heat played its toll on the HNU players, as after 10 minutes a crafty forward turned Shea Whelan on the top of the box, and dribbled it into the danger area before poking it past Hawks Keeper Lars Johansen.
The Hawks found themselves in deeper trouble after 25 minutes after a run down the left wing and a ball crossed back into the box to find a free man who tapped home from 10 yards out.
On 32 minutes, the Sun Birds scored their 3rd goal of the half after a ball was dropped by Johansen and it was failed to be cleared.
The Hawks finished up the half strong with a brilliant run from forward Jonathan Tinjaca who struck the ball over the bar in the dying seconds of the first half.
The Hawks came out into the second half, and played a lot better defense, and the heat had dropped dramatically by this point. FPU still piled on the pressure but the Hawks withstood, and the best chance of the half fell again to Jonathan Tiinjaca, who threw himself at the ball in the danger zone, with it unfortunatly ending up over the crossbar.
The game finished 3-0 and the Hawks returned home to regroup for the opening match of their conference against Menlo College at 11am this Saturday at Merritt College.
