Juan Gomez and Heiti Larsen Top Finishers for the Hawks
Women’s 5K:
The Holy Names University Women’s Cross Country competed at the Mills College Invitational this past Saturday. The spectator-friendly course was packed with over 200 competitors. Leading the Hawks was sophomore Heiti Larsen who finished 24th with a time of 22:15. Larsen was followed by Maricruz Espindola (27th, 22:26), Chenique Jackson (35th, 23:03), Jenna Pasillas (44th, 23:45), Laura Crabtree (48th, 24:02), Katy Anklam (55th, 24:52). Also running for the Hawks was senior Alicia Torres (70th, 27:10) and freshman Veronica Cuevas (80th, 29:36).
The Hawks finished 5th with 109 points behind San Francisco State (20), De Anza College (74), Mills College (77), and Cal State Monterey Bay (106).
Men’s 8K:
Leading the Hawks were the powerful trio of senior Juan Gomez who finished 7th with a time of 28:36:34, sophomore Edrian Luna (17th, 29:13:51), and freshman Zack Holt (23rd, 29:24:41). Following the trio were juniors Miguel Solis (46th, 31:31:85) and Juan Monje (47th, 31:48:61), rounding up the top five.
Running unattached were freshmen Uriel Martinez (60th, 33:35:45) and Fernando Guitierrez (64th, 34:11:11).
The Hawks finished 4th overall with 94 points behind San Francisco State (36), De Anza College (63), and Sacramento College (80).
“I was proud on everyone’s performance today,” said Head Coach Francisco Gomez “it is still early in the season and there’s much more room for improvement.”
