ANGWIN, Calif – The Holy Names University Women’s Basketball team (21-8, 14-1) got their 14th conference win with a victory over Pacific Union College 98-52 on Thursday night.
Five Hawks scored in double figures, led by
Britni Ronolo’s double-double with 20 pionts and 10 rebounds. The freshman also had 4 steals.
Jamie-Leigh Ronolo,
Sarah Henning,
Chelsie Kadota and
Raquel Hyche each had 10 points in the win.
Larisa Nakasone had a game high 6 assists.
Junai Dawson and
Valyncia Hartfield shared game high honors with 5 steals each.
The Hawks went on a 22-2 run over a 7 minute span in the first half to jump out with a 34-10 lead with 6:45 remaining. HNU took the 48-26 lead into the locker room by outrebounding the Pioneers 24 to 19. The Hawks shot 50% from the field on 20 for 40 shooting while holding PUC to 31% from the floor.
In the second half the Hawks continued to pull away and following an
Alexandria Gonzalez 3 pointer the Hawks extended their lead to 39 points with 6:14 remaining. With just over a minute remaining Britni Ronolo sunk a pair of free throws to give the Hawks their greatest lead at the final score of 98-52.
Minutes were spread evenly amongst HNU with 62 of their points generated from the bench. The Hawks shot 51% on the evening and secured 45 rebounds to PUC’s 33. HNU’s defense also forced 43 turnovers.
With the win the Hawks extend their conference record to 14-1 with just one regular season game remaining. Their next game will be on Saturday February 21st at William Jessup University.
